Birth Story

The day started out bright and early for me. I set my alarm for 4:45am, so that I could shower, and make myself presentable before my child arrived! :) I spent a good portion of the morning crying on and off because I just knew that I would miss Manuel and Mia, and the thought of the "what ifs" were getting to me. I woke the kids and Manny up around 5:30am everyone got ready (the kids put on their Big Brother and Big Sister shirts) and we headed to my moms to drop off the kids! :)

Our last pic as a family of 4! :)
I cried (A LOT! as you can see in the pic above my eyes are swollen from all the crying! :)) at drop off, but tried to get in and out as quickly as possible so I didn't make the kiddos sad! We stopped at Dunkin Donuts so Manny could get a breakfast sandwich (lucky guy! I wasn't able to eat! :)) and then headed to the hospital for check-in. We got there a couple of minutes before 7am and checked in. We waited about 10 minutes before our OR nurse came out (along with a  nurse in training) and went back to the pre-op room. That's where everything happened...IV, blood pressure, monitoring the baby, etc. Manny and I kept busy with chit chat, while my nerves escalated! :) Around 8:20am my friend Kelli arrived (Kelli is one of my best friends from high school, who did all my sonograms, and who I chose to be in the OR with us. The only other people I would have wanted was my mom or sister and they would have NEVER wanted to be in there because they are so queasy so easy! :)) Kelli is hilarious and definitely helped bring down our anxiety when she arrived. Before long it was time for them to "suit up" and prepare to enter the OR, while my nurse escorted me into the OR. The OR is a bright place with LOTS of stuff everywhere and definitely very intimidating but I sat up on the table and waited for the anesthesiologist to direct me what to do. He did the spinal (which hurt a bit), I laid down on the table (a little after 9am), they escorted Manny and Kelli, who sat down next to my head and the surgery began. I was trying to make sure to take everything in, and not worry about the "what ifs" and just focus on the moment. We had told Dr. Hunter that when she pulled out the baby that we wanted Manny to tell me what he/she was, so as they were about to pull the baby out, Dr. Hunter said, "Manny, stand up the baby is about to come out." and with that, Manny stood up, looked at me and said, "Meet Maci!" I lost it! I cried hysterically. I knew all along that she was a girl, but obviously until that point, I didn't know for sure! :)

My sweet Maci Louise was born at 9:16am, weighing in at whopping 8 lbs 10oz and 21 1/4 inches long. (my biggest baby, by far! Manuel was 7 lbs 11oz and Mia was a little over 7 lbs 3 oz). Manny went over to tend to Maci (put on her first diaper, etc.) while Kelli took a TON of amazing pics (that I will treasure forever!) and I just took it all in while they stitched me up!

Before long I was being rolled to the recovery room (where they keep you until you can wiggle your feet), where my Maci Louise was laid on my chest and we just bonded. Kelli hung out for a bit longer and then left Manny and I to be together, with our newest baby girl! :)

After, what seemed like FOREVER, I could finally wiggle my feet and we were wheeled to my post partum room where 2 children, my mom and Ron waited anxiously to see if a baby girl or a baby boy had joined our family. Manny rolled Maci in (in her bassinet) and as soon as they saw the pink hat, the family knew, IT'S A GIRL! :) Manuel was a little "bummed" (not mad or anything like that, but he wanted a brother but has since grown to love his baby sister SO much! :)) Mia was ecstatic. They both wanted to hold her right away! It was a beautiful moment for me! :)

The day was beautiful and our time in the hospital was great too! We actually were interviewed by a news reporter in honor of the hospitals 50th anniversary! I'll share the link here when it airs! I couldn't believe that I allowed myself to be interviewed with my hair curly (I HATE when my hair is curly! :)) but it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and something that we'll always have to share with Maci! :)) I have a ton more pics to share, I just wanted to share a FEW pics from our first day with our baby girl!

I hope you all are doing well! Take care! :)
