Monday Minute

I've never participated, but thought I'd give it a go this week...

Monday Minute

Who was your high school Sweet Heart?
No high school sweetheart. I had a lot of friends, and they were mostly guys, but no real boyfriends. Poor me! ;)

What is your favorite vegetable to eat?
CORN! I could eat corn every single day!

Do you plan on dressing up for Halloween, if yes, what do you have in mind?
No, probably not. My aunt and uncle have had a huge Halloween party in past years so I've dressed up, but they aren't this year. The kids are going to be Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf (it was Manuel's idea and I LOVE it! :)

Are you a reality show junkie? If so, what is your guilty pleasure?
That's an understatement! I pretty much don't watch anything other then reality TV (and Modern Family! :) Sad, but true! :)

and finally
What year did you graduate high school?
1999. I can't believe it's been 11 years!!!!

Go visit and link up! :)

Our "date" day

Since Mia has been born, we have yet to leave the kids overnight. It's just not something I desire to do. My priorities have changed in life, and honestly, spending most of my free time with my children and hubby is my idea of awesome! :) Don't get me wrong, we all need "me" time, but I am a-o-k with how things are these days! The one thing that I thought we could change was the fact that since Mia's been born, we have yet to spend any one-on-one time with just Mommy, Daddy and Manuel. I knew he needed it, so Saturday afternoon was our "date". The 3 of us went downtown to the Inner Harbor, went to Port Discovery and just had some fun times. I tried to get artsy with my "scenic" photos, so here they are...unedited and straight from the camera. Enjoy! Up next...pics of Manuel from the day! :)

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my dad's 61st birthday and I wish he was here so we could celebrate with him. We won't see my dad again, on this side of Heaven, but I know he's okay. I know he's happier then he was here on Earth. Addiction had destroyed his soul, but I have no doubt he is whole again in Heaven! Each day I THINK it gets easier, but then I have one of those moments where I go to pick up the phone to call him, and then I "remember" (not as if I ever forget, but you know what I mean). I had a REALLY long post written out to post on my dad's birthday, but it was too lengthy, too involved, and not the most positive post so I've decided to keep it in my "archives" and perhaps post it one day when I just want to ramble. For now...

Dad,
I love you and miss you SO much! Although I miss you dearly I know one thing...you are at peace in Heaven, true, complete peace and free of any "demons" that haunted you on Earth. I find my own peace in that. It doesn't make me miss you any less, or take away the ache from my heart that you never got to meet Mia, or make it easier when Manuel asks why he can't jump really high on a pogo stick and visit you in Heaven :), etc. ButI have no doubt that you are finally happy! :) I hope your birthday is spent fishing, fishing and more fishing!!!! I'll see you again one day Dad but until then give Mateo, Ian and Anthony a kiss from Zia Christina, and tell Papa that I love him and miss him. Happy Birthday!

Love Your Little Girl Always and Forever,
Christina

I won!

I love super cute (and saying the words "super cute" ;) but my love for them has intensified since having Mia. I'm big in to tutu's, bows, and all that wonderful stuff. Unfortunately she doesn't own a tutu, and just got her first adorable big bow last weekend. But that's all changed because I won a giveaway and not only will she get a tutu, but a bow AND a onesie also! :)

I entered a giveaway @ "That 22 Year Old Housewife" and I won! Visit her blog! :)

I got to choose from a tutu set, a boys short set or an adorable bag from Paula at Mother Goose Collections (www.mothergoosecollections.com GO VISIT! You'll fall in love!) I chose the 1st Thanksgiving tutu set. This is my idea of happiness...I LOVE Fall, Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday, and my newest obsession is Mia in tutu's (again, she's NEVER worn one but I just envision it being the cutest thing EVER! :) I am SO excited to get it in the mail! :) If you are looking for something adorable Mother Goose Collections is the place to be. Paula was SO quick to respond to my questions and has rave reviews on MGC Facebook page.

Even if it's September when the tutu comes in the mail (and nowhere close to Thanksgiving) you better believe I'll be posting pics! :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wordless(ish) Wednesday

This isn't the greatest of pictures, but it holds a very special place in my heart. This is my dad, Lou, with Manuel on Easter Sunday of 2008. My dad ADORED Manuel with every piece of his heart. My dad was a good man. A man with many issues that he ultimately could not overcome. My dad died unexpectedly (yet expectedly) on May 15th, 2009 a few months shy of his 60th birthday. This Sunday, August 29, 2010 my dad would have turned 61 years old. I'm going to do a post in his honor on Sunday, but for now...

And for good measure...

I heart faces photo challenge: Beach fun

This is my first time entering one of these photo challenges, but I had to participate this week! :) This is was our first trip to the beach where Manuel was actually able to "enjoy" himself. I mean he always has BUT this time he wanted to play in the water, "surf" (what the rest of us know as boogie boarding :), etc. He had a blast. He just looks so innocent in this pic!

Not the greatest, but I tried...

One of my very first attempts at photo editing...

Before:

After:

Not super fancy, but cute nonetheless :)

M.I.A

Please excuse my 1 1/2 day blogging absence (that's unusual for me as I've been a semi-regular blogger lately :) I've been playing with Picasa and EDITING PHOTOS!!! Eeeekkkkkk! I have NO idea what I'm doing, but since I used Picasa (and Carlotta's help :) to make my header I thought I'd give the photo editing tools a try (and it's free which is always a plus). I am VERY novice in my skills (I would consider myself a pre-pre beginner since my range of skills consist of changing the pic to black and white and well, that's about how far my skills range ;) but heck, it's a start! :) I plan on posting a before and after photo sometime today. You know, I guess I should throw some actual work in my work day, and saving the photo editing for my lunch break.

HAPPY FRIDAY! :)

NOT Wordlessish Wednesday :)

Mia, today August 18th, you turn 7 months old! You are officially closer to the one year old mark then you are to the day of your birth :( I can not believe how fast you are growing up. They say time flies, and although it's cliche, it's SO true....especially when it comes to the speed at which you and your brother are growing up. I know it's all a part of life, but can you slow down a little!??! Please! :) I'm having a hard time with you growing up! I'm not sure if it's because you could possibly be be our last baby or if it's just because Mommy is getting older and the older you get the quicker time flies. I don't know, but I don't like it one bit! So stop, please! :) You are every bit "my little girl", your daddy adores you, and your big brother thinks you are pretty great! :)

Now, on to the stats and figures ;)

-You weigh 16lbs 8oz (or at least that's what I "guesstimated" after weighing myself then putting you on the scale with me :) You don't go back to the doctors until you are 9 months old, so until then we'll just do it that way! :) I TRIED to measure how long you were but I'm going to assume I did something wrong...one time you were 14 inches, one time you were 30 inches (not really, but Mommy just couldn't get it right! :)

-You are a rolling machine. If you want something, you roll to it! :) You have two rattles that you love! You try to eat anything and everything, even Mommy's hair! :)

-You are still in size 3 diapers. You are finally filling them out more! :)

-You had a major growth spurt since Mommy's last update...you have outgrown pretty much most of your 3-6 month clothes (especially length wise) and our in 6-9 month clothes, for the most part.

-You continue to spend your days, Monday-Friday, at Linnie's house. Linne takes WONDERFUL care of! We couldn't be happier and more "at ease" with who takes care of you while Mommy and Daddy are at work. She took care of your brother from the time he was 8 months old until he was 4 so we trust her totally and completely. She adores you SOOO much!

-You continue to be super nosey, just like Mommy! You would think that you were part owl with the way you practically turn your neck completely around to see something! :)

-You had your first physical therpay session on Monday, August 16th. Mrs. Mary Pat is awesome, and thinks you are just the cutest. We are going to work on getting your muscles nice and strong so that you can be on your road to crawling. She noticed that you don't use your abdominal muscles as much as you should (it's okay, neither does Mommy! ;) and tend to overwork your back and neck muscles to roll, sit up, etc. She told me that Mommy was very in tune to you for me to have noticed this at such an early age. We are hopeful that after a handful of sessions you'll be right where you need to be.

-You sit up for longer and longer stretches at a time. You really are mastering sitting up on your own while playing with toys. If you get to in to the toys, you do tip over sometimes, but that's okay! :)

-You are still very particular about how you sleep (or don't sleep for that matter! :) We say that if Sleep Fighting was an Olympic sport, you'd be a gold medalist Mia Grace! Manuel even says, "Mommy, Mia is fighting her sleep, and sleep is losing!" :) Normally you'll fall asleep while laying on Mommy's chest, and I have somewhat mastered the art of laying you in your crib and you staying asleep HOWEVER if I try to put you in there too soon, you will wake up, look around as if you haven't been sleeping at all, and start crying! You usually go to bed around 8ish, sometimes wake up around 12 or so, but Mommy will hold you and put you back to sleep, and then wake up around 4-5ish for a bottle. Your sleep schedule is DEFINITELY something that we need to work on, but I just keep telling myself, "You're gonna miss this one day!" ;)

-You love talking, smiling and laughing (deep belly laughs that Mommy could bottle up and sell! :) You said "Mama" once at Linnie's in early August, but it was when you were throwing a fit because Linnie was taking too long getting your lunch ready! :) Oh, and you LOVE waving! It's more of an entire arm motion of up and down, but eventually you'll get it down to just using your little hand! :)

-You eat Stage 1 fruits and veggies. You also eat Oatmeal cereal. And of course formula. At your 6 month appt Dr. K said you weren't eating enough, so we've up'd that and it seems like you are good to go now, and less cranky! I guess you were cranky before because we were starving you! ;)

-Your nick names are still "MiaPia", "MeetzyPeetzy", "Smiley Cyrus", and the newest one is "Beauty" (that's what your big brother calls you! :)

I think I've covered all the bases Mia Grace. Words can not describe how much you are loved! :)

Thank you!

Do you see my adorable new header? (Well, it's adorable if I do say so myself! ;) I never, in a million years, thought I'd actually be able to do something fancy like that. And for those of you reading this, you may be thinking "fancy? Not so much!" but coming from someone who just found out to post buttons on her page, making that header myself was HUGE! I didn't actually do it by myself though...thanks to the wonderful Carlotta, at pastor's girl's ponderings and her step-by-step tutorial I was able to do it. Go visit Carlotta and say hi. She seems like such a sweet girl and her siblings are precious! :)

Thanks Carlotta!

And on a total random side note...in case you haven't noticed I'm a huge fan of smiley faces, "!!!!!" and "...." I use them when they aren't necessary and probably not grammatically correct, but I'm obsessed. The End!!!! ... :)

How to party like a rockstar on Friday nights!

In my "former life" (aka pre-wifehood and motherhood :) I was quite the party gal. Not necessarily something I'm proud, but I was young and dumb and having fun (or what I thought was fun! :) I would NEVER be caught dead spending a Friday night at home (GASP! That would have never crossed my mind!) Fast forward 4 1/2 years and life has totally changed. I can't even remember the last time I WASN'T at home on a Friday night, hanging out with hubs and kiddos. Trust me, I wouldn't have it any other way. Tonight I really rocked out because hubs and M#1 (aka Manuel) went to a minor league baseball game with our church. I opted out because it's August and I really don't think we've seen temps below 90 degrees for weeks here on the good ol' East Coast (at least in my state! :) and since I didn't know what the weather would be like when we had to buy the tickets, I didn't want to risk it being 106 degrees out and having to take M#2 (Mia) out in the sweltering heat. (Let's be honest, I didn't want to take myself out if it was 106 degrees! :) I don't really "do" heat and humidity very well! :) So M#1 and hubs are at the game, having the time of their lives (at 4 1/2 you don't get minor league, major league, etc. You just know that youare at a baseball game, there is tons of fun stuff going, and life is good!) Here are two phone pics my hubs sent...

I'm so glad they are having a blast! Manuel got to meet a baseball legend (Cal Ripken Jr.) and of course, my child would make THAT face in his pic. Gotta love little boys and their carefree attitudes! :)

While Mia and I enjoyed girl time which consisted of carry out (well, she just watched me eat carry out :), snuggle time, and DVR amazingness :) (I don't know about you other mothers out there, but it's seldom ever my turn to watch what I want so I took full advantage with hubs and M#1 out! :) Teen Mom, Boston Med (most awesome medical reality show EVER!), and Big Brother. I was going to throw Wife Swap in there, but HELLO, I can't have too much fun in one night! So now my little lady is sleeping, and I am up WAY past my typical bedtime (typically 9:30pm M-Thursday! Cut me some slack, I wake up at 5:30am for work) so it's time to call it a night :)

Rockstars need sleep too, right? ;)

Name change

Back on March 25th I posted a blog about something REALLY important...the state of the economy? the state of the country? Nope! Something WAY more relevant...the name of my blog! :) As it stood, my blog was and has always been E=MC^2 (not as in Einstein's theory of relativity) because my husband and my son both have the initials MC, so "squaring" MC would stand for the both of them. Cheesy, I know, but cute and creative (or so I think! :) Then Mia came along, and although she is an "M", her middle name does not begin with "C" (it's Grace, in case you were wondering) so then my wheels began turning about changing my blog name. To be honest, I didn't give it THAT much thought (except on 3/25 when I posted the blog :) but then over the last few days when I would post my randomness, I'd add pics of the kids, then put "And for good measure..." Today it dawned on me, that would be a cute blog title "And for good measure..." so I'm going to keep my IRL the same (to avoid confusing anyone who may actually read my blog :) but my blog title is officially changed.

I think it has a cute ring to it! :)

100th entry

When I started this blog on November 18, 2008 I had one primary reason for doing so...I wanted to follow blogs and read about other moms, their lives and their children, and occasionally comment without seeming like a "weirdo" :) I figured if I had a blog, a picture, an "about me", etc. people would be able to put a face with a name and comment and be less creeped out by some stranger reading about their lives. Yes, I realize that if your blog is public, you open your life up to strangers, but I didn't want to be a lurker! :) Now clearly, if I've only posted 100 entries in almost 2 years I'm not a very active blogger, but I have become better about posting since becoming a mother of two! :) And plus, when I returned to work from maternity leave in March and Facebook was BLOCKED (GASP! ;), I needed SOMETHING to do in my downtime at work, so why not blog more often!??!?! :) I've loved getting to read about other families all across the US, praying for them in their times of need, crying for them in their times of sorrow, rejoicing for them in their times of happiness, and even entering their fun giveaways that I NEVER win (wah wah! :) But seriously, blogging has been an amazing adventure and although I've only posted 100 times, I've read thousands of others posts and it's really been a neat experience.

Cheers to 100 more! :)

And for good measure....

Wordless(ish) Wednesday

So I've been VERY wordy today (I think 3 post in one day is a record) BUT here is a picture of my children. I'd venture to say that it is VERY clear how my son feels about pictures these days! :( He LOVES using the camera to take pics but hates being in them. At least I have a few more years before Mia's starts contesting her picture being taken! :)

And just for good measure...

Photo Challenge: Water

I absolutely love The Paper Mama and think her blog (and her daughter :) are just the cutest. She is always holding photo challenges and although my pictures are unedited, untouched and from a pretty "un-fancy" camera :) I still like to participate now and then. Click on this button and enter a picture.

The Paper Mama

The theme this week is water, and I went a different route then one might expect, especially when I have super adorable pictures of Mia and Manuel in the water. The photo that I went with is of a fountain with flowers in it. Some might think...that doesn't have to do with children or animals?!?!? However, it very much does. Every year the hospital where my nephews were born (and ultimately passed away) holds a "Walk to Remember" Each mother and/or father is given flowers and at the end of "walk" they are allowed to throw the flowers in the fountain (if they so choose) in honor of their children. To some people this picture might not represent children, but to some people who've suffered that loss, they see their children and beauty! :)

These wonderful faces in my life...What would I do without them?

Happiness is also....FINALLY cleaning out my closet and organizing my clothes so that when I get dressed for work in the morning it isn't a 16 hour long process just to find a certain item! :) Getting dressed these last 3 mornings has been SO much easier!

Now go link up! :)

Tuesdays Thoughts

Another catchy title :) But I just have some things on my heart that I would like to write out...

I take life for granted. I think we all do at times, but I'll admit that I do it more then I should. I take my children for granted. I take my husband for granted. I take my family for granted. Shewwww, that's hard! I love them all to death and I wouldn't be me without them, but sometimes I just assume they'll be there, and clearly that's not the case.

Is my life perfect? Oh my goodness NO! Far from it! But I am blessed beyond measure with aspects of my life and it takes certain moments to make you really sit back and think. I have come across amazing blogs in the short time that I've been a "blogger" (I use that term loosely, because really, is posting pictures of your children and writing random stories about them really blogging? Probably not, but I digress! :) I have read stories of triumph and tragedy, highs and lows, life and death, and read about people having gone through circumstances in life that I can't even BEGIN to imagine on my worst of worst days. Now, don't get me wrong, I've been through my fair share of struggles in life...my dads drug and alcohol abuse, my parents divorce in the prime of my teenage years, the death of my sisters best from from cancer a mere month after my parents divorced, my mom losing our house due to financial struggles out of her control, a pretty nasty span of my early 20's that included heavy drinking and the occasional (or not so occasional, more like regular basis) drug use, my husbands struggle with addiction and stay in rehab, the loss of my triplet nephews in May 2008, my dads unexpected (or expected depending upon how you look at the big picture) stroke which killed him, and I'm sure the list could go on. None of that ever "broke" me, although it probably should have. I will say that the alcohol and drug use probably would have killed me, BUT my angel came along on June 9, 2005 and saved my soul (that is the day I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant with my son). There is only one thing that I can say got me through all of this, and that is God. I didn't really "know" God until November 2007 but clearly He was in my life long before that! But there is one thing that I think when I come across a blog about loss and that is losing my children or my husband...how would I EVER get through that, even with God? Which brings me back to the whole point of the amazing families I've come across through blogging that have lost childrens, husbands and wives. How in the world do you EVER move on after that!??!?!?!? Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes and a literal pain to my heart. I am in awe of the families I come across who have experienced such TREMENDOUS loss and are still here, smiling, picking up the pieces and moving forward (I won't say "moving on" because I can't imagine that you EVER "move on.")

So you may be thinking...where did this come from? And to be honest, I'm not really sure. I know it's a build up of months and months of reading about these types of stories and then I just read a blog of a family who's son was born premature, fought valiantly in the NICU for 2 months, everything seemed promising and then the little boy passed away!!! They seemed SOOO hopeful! Or the families who's sweet children were stillborn or passed of SIDS, and sadly the list goes on and on. I just follow so many blogs where families have suffered an unimaginable loss and I needed to write this out, think about my children and my husband and realize how fortunate I am because you never know, in an instant, it can all change.

Thank you to all those blogs out there that honestly, poignantly document loss because you make me want to be a better mother, a better wife, and when I take the time to stop and think, you make me not take life for granted. Thank you!

Too Cute Tuesday :)

How's that for a catchy title? :) At the end of July we had our family picture taken for our church directory. Of course the kind folks at Olan Mills took several pics of the kids and here are my 3 favs...
